Whats The Difference Between Sprintec And Tri Sprintec

Benjamin WhiteBy Benjamin WhiteJune 30, 2023

Sprintec and Tri Sprintec are two different types of birth control pills. Both are oral contraceptives used to prevent pregnancy, but they have some differences in their composition and effectiveness. This article will explain the differences between the two types of pills and provide information on which one may be the best option for you.

    What Is Sprintec?

Sprintec is a combination birth control pill that contains two hormones: ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate. The ethinyl estradiol is a type of estrogen, and the norgestimate is a progestin. Together, these hormones work to prevent ovulation and thicken cervical mucus, making it difficult for sperm to reach the egg. Sprintec also works to thin the lining of the uterus, making it harder for a fertilized egg to attach. The pill is taken once a day for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break in which the user will typically experience a menstrual period.

    What Is Tri Sprintec?

Tri Sprintec is also a combination birth control pill, but it contains three hormones: ethinyl estradiol, norgestimate, and norethindrone. The ethinyl estradiol is a type of estrogen, and the norgestimate and norethindrone are both progestins. Like Sprintec, the hormones in Tri Sprintec work to prevent ovulation, thicken cervical mucus, and thin the lining of the uterus. However, Tri Sprintec contains a slightly higher dose of hormones than Sprintec, making it more effective at preventing pregnancy. Tri Sprintec is also taken once a day for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break in which the user will typically experience a menstrual period.

In conclusion, Sprintec and Tri Sprintec are two different types of birth control pills that contain different hormones and have different levels of effectiveness. It is important to talk to your doctor to determine which type of pill is best for you.
