What Does Unreadable Mean On Mot

Benjamin WhiteBy Benjamin WhiteJune 28, 2023

MOT stands for “Ministry of Transport” and is the government agency responsible for regulating and inspecting vehicles in the United Kingdom. When a vehicle is brought in for an MOT test, it is checked for a variety of factors to ensure that it is safe to be driven on the roads. If the MOT results show that the vehicle has failed, it will be given an “unreadable” result. This means that the vehicle has failed the test and needs to be repaired in order to pass.

    What Is Unreadable On MOT?

An unreadable MOT result means that the vehicle has failed the test and needs to be repaired in order to pass. This can happen if there is an issue with the vehicle that could potentially make it unsafe to drive, such as a problem with the brakes or steering. It could also be due to other minor issues like a missing or expired registration plate.

In some cases, the MOT tester may be able to identify the issue and provide advice on how to fix it. However, if the issue is more complex, they may need to refer the vehicle to a garage for further diagnosis and repair.

    Understanding Unreadable MOT Results

It’s important to understand that an unreadable MOT result does not necessarily mean that the vehicle is unsafe to drive. It simply means that it has failed the test and needs to be fixed in order to pass. The tester will provide a list of the issues that need to be fixed in order to pass, and it is the responsibility of the vehicle’s owner to have these issues addressed before the vehicle can be driven on the roads.

It’s also important to note that an unreadable MOT result does not mean that the vehicle will never pass the test. If the issues are fixed and the vehicle is brought back in for another test, it may pass the second time around.

In conclusion, an unreadable MOT result means that the vehicle has failed the test and needs to be repaired in order to pass. The tester will provide a list of the issues that need to be fixed in order to pass, and it is the responsibility of the vehicle’s owner to have these issues addressed before the vehicle can be driven on the roads. However, it does not necessarily mean that the vehicle is unsafe to drive and it may be able to pass the test if the issues are fixed.
