Benjamin WhiteBy Benjamin WhiteJune 30, 2023

The Tanakh is the Hebrew Bible, which is also known as the Mikra or the Written Law. It is the collection of ancient Jewish texts, and it is the first section of the Christian Bible. The Tanakh is made up of three parts: the Torah, the Nevi’im, and the Ketuvim. In this article, we will look at each part of the Tanakh in more detail.

Part 1: What is the Tanakh?

The Tanakh is the Hebrew Bible, which is the collection of ancient Jewish texts. It is the first section of the Christian Bible, and it is divided into three sections: the Torah, the Nevi’im, and the Ketuvim. The Tanakh is also known as the Mikra or the Written Law.

The Tanakh is the source of religious authority and spiritual guidance for Jews and Christians alike. It contains the laws, stories, and wisdom of the Jewish people and is the basis of their religion and culture.

    Part 2: The Torah

The Torah is the first section of the Tanakh and is the most important part. It is the foundation of Jewish law and contains the five books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The Torah is traditionally divided into 54 portions, which are read aloud in synagogues on Shabbat and Jewish holidays. The Torah is the source of many of the laws and customs that Jews observe today.

    Part 3: The Nevi’im

The Nevi’im is the second section of the Tanakh and contains the prophetic writings of the Jewish people. It is divided into two parts: the Former Prophets and the Latter Prophets. The Former Prophets include the books of Joshua, Judges, Samuel, and Kings. The Latter Prophets include the books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and the Twelve Minor Prophets.

    Part 4: The Ketuvim

The Ketuvim is the third section of the Tanakh and contains the poetic and wisdom books of the Jewish people. It includes the books of Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Song of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, Esther, Daniel, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Chronicles. The Ketuvim is the source of many of the teachings and stories of the Jewish people.
