How To Get Rid Of Wireworms Naturally

Benjamin WhiteBy Benjamin WhiteJuly 1, 2023

Wireworms are the larvae of click beetles and are a common pest found in vegetable gardens, lawns, and flower beds. They are small, slender, and yellow to brown in color, and can be difficult to spot. Fortunately, there are several natural remedies available for getting rid of wireworms without the use of chemicals.

    Identifying Wireworms

Wireworms can be difficult to identify. They can range from one-quarter of an inch to two inches in length. They are usually yellow to brown in color and have a segmented body with six legs. They are often found in damp soil and can be found by digging around the soil and looking for their distinctive shape.

    Natural Remedies for Control

There are several natural remedies that can be used to get rid of wireworms.

    1. The first is to use a combination of diatomaceous earth and compost. Diatomaceous earth is a natural insecticide that will kill wireworms when they come in contact with it. Compost will help to attract beneficial insects that will feed on the wireworms.
    2. Another natural remedy is to use nematodes. Nematodes are tiny worms that feed on wireworms. They can be applied to the soil directly or mixed with water and sprayed on the soil.
    3. Another remedy is to use a trap. You can construct a simple wireworm trap by placing a piece of cardboard in the ground and covering it with a thin layer of soil. The wireworms are attracted to the cardboard and will be trapped.
    4. Finally, you can also handpick the wireworms from the soil. This is the least desirable option, but it can be effective if done regularly.

By using the above natural remedies, you can get rid of wireworms without the use of chemical pesticides. It is important to remember that these remedies should be used in combination, as they will be more effective when used together. With a little bit of effort, you can keep your garden and lawn free of wireworms.
