    Do Secretariat Records Still Stand

Benjamin WhiteBy Benjamin WhiteJuly 1, 2023

Secretariat, the legendary racehorse of the 1970s, set world records that have gone unbeaten for decades. His incredible performances have cemented his legacy as one of the greatest horses of all time. In this article, we will explore whether Secretariat’s records still stand today.

    Examining Secretariat’s Records

Secretariat was an American thoroughbred racehorse who lived from 1970 to 1989. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest racehorses in history, having won the Triple Crown and set world records in all three races. In 1973, Secretariat won the Kentucky Derby in a time of 1:59 2/5, setting a new world record. He then won the Preakness Stakes in a time of 1:53, setting another world record. Finally, he won the Belmont Stakes in a time of 2:24, setting yet another world record.

Secretariat’s records were considered unbeatable for decades, as no other horse was able to come close to his times. His records still stand as the fastest times for the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes.

    Are They Still Unbeaten?

Despite Secretariat’s incredible records, there have been horses in recent years that have come close to breaking them. In 2001, Monarchos came close to breaking the Kentucky Derby record, finishing in a time of 1:59 4/5. In 2009, Mine That Bird came close to breaking the Preakness Stakes record, finishing in a time of 1:53 3/5. And in 2018, Justify came close to breaking the Belmont Stakes record, finishing in a time of 2:28 4/5.

While these horses have come close to breaking Secretariat’s records, none of them have been able to do so. Despite the advances in breeding and training in recent years, Secretariat’s records remain unbeaten.

Secretariat’s records remain unbeaten after almost 50 years, a testament to the incredible horse’s talent and legacy. His records will likely remain unbeaten for many years to come, as no other horse has been able to come close to matching them.
