    Are Hoverboards Still Dangerous

Benjamin WhiteBy Benjamin WhiteJune 30, 2023

Hoverboards have been the must-have item for many tech-savvy youngsters since they hit the market in 2015. Unfortunately, these seemingly innocuous gadgets have been linked to numerous safety issues, leading to questions about whether they are still dangerous to use. In this article, we will investigate the risks of hoverboards to find out if they are still a risk to users.

    Hoverboards: A Risky Ride

Hoverboards have become increasingly popular in recent years, with many people opting for them over traditional skateboards. However, the technology used to power them has been linked to a number of safety concerns. In 2016, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall for more than 500,000 hoverboards due to reports of them overheating, catching fire, and even exploding.

Since then, the CPSC has released guidelines for hoverboard manufacturers to make their products safer. These guidelines include using certified batteries, making sure the device is properly charged, and making sure the components are UL 2272 certified. Despite these measures, there are still reports of hoverboards malfunctioning and causing injury to users.

    Investigating the Risks of Hoverboards

The most common risks associated with hoverboards are related to the device itself. Overheating batteries, faulty wiring, and poor design can all lead to hoverboards malfunctioning and causing injury to the user. Additionally, the CPSC warns that hoverboards can be a hazard when used on slopes or uneven surfaces, as the user can lose balance and fall off.

However, the biggest risk with hoverboards is the lack of safety equipment. Unlike traditional skateboards, hoverboards do not come with protective gear such as helmets or elbow and knee pads. This means that if a user falls off their hoverboard, they are at risk of serious injury.

Overall, hoverboards can still be dangerous for users if the necessary precautions are not taken. It is important for users to make sure their hoverboard is certified and that they are wearing the appropriate safety gear while using it. Additionally, users should be aware of the risks associated with using hoverboards on slopes or uneven surfaces. By taking these steps, users can ensure that their hoverboarding experience is as safe as possible.
