    How To Use Mdas Rule

Benjamin WhiteBy Benjamin WhiteJune 30, 2023

The MDAS Rule (Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction) is a mathematical rule used to solve equations that involve multiple operations. It is a useful tool to help students understand the order of operations and develop problem solving skills. In this article, we will discuss how to use the MDAS Rule to solve equations.

    Understanding the MDAS Rule

The MDAS Rule is a basic mathematical rule that states that operations should be performed in the order of multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction. This means that when solving equations, the operations should be performed in this order. For example, if the equation is 3 + 5 x 4, the multiplication should be done first, so the equation would be 3 + 20, and then the addition should be done, so the answer would be 23.

It is important to remember that the MDAS Rule should be followed when solving equations. This is because the order of operations can affect the answer, and if the wrong order is used, the answer will be incorrect.

    Applying the MDAS Rule

To apply the MDAS Rule, it is important to first identify the operations in the equation. Once the operations have been identified, the equation should be solved in the order of multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction.

When solving an equation, it is important to remember that multiplication and division should be done before addition and subtraction. This means that if the equation has both multiplication and division, the multiplication should be done first, followed by the division. For example, if the equation is 4 x 5 / 2, the multiplication should be done first, so the equation would be 20 / 2, and then the division should be done, so the answer would be 10.

Once the multiplication and division have been completed, the addition and subtraction should be done in the order that they appear in the equation. For example, if the equation is 3 + 5 – 4, the addition should be done first, so the equation would be 8 – 4, and then the subtraction should be done, so the answer would be 4.

The MDAS Rule is an important tool for solving equations and understanding the order of operations. By following this rule, students can develop their problem solving skills and ensure that they are getting the correct answer.
