Why Do Wahhabis Not Celebrate Milad

Benjamin WhiteBy Benjamin WhiteJuly 1, 2023

Wahhabism is a branch of Sunni Islam that has gained much attention in recent years. It is a strict interpretation of the Quran and is followed by many people in the Middle East and around the world. One of the main practices of Wahhabis is that they don’t celebrate Milad, which is an important event in other branches of Islam. In this article, we will discuss why Wahhabis don’t celebrate Milad.

    Understanding Wahhabism

Wahhabism is a branch of Sunni Islam that was founded in the 18th century by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab in Saudi Arabia. It is a very strict interpretation of the Quran and it emphasizes the strict enforcement of Islamic law. Wahhabism is the official religion of Saudi Arabia and it has spread to other countries in the Middle East and around the world.

    Reasons for Not Celebrating Milad

    1. Wahhabis believe that celebrating Milad is a form of shirk, or polytheism. According to their interpretation of the Quran, it is forbidden to venerate anyone other than Allah. Celebrating Milad is seen as a form of worshiping someone other than Allah, which is strictly forbidden.
    2. Wahhabis believe that celebrating Milad is a form of bid’ah, or innovation. They believe that any practices that are not mentioned in the Quran or Sunnah are innovations and should be avoided. Since celebrating Milad is not mentioned in either the Quran or Sunnah, Wahhabis believe it should be avoided.
    3. Wahhabis believe that celebrating Milad is a form of wasting time and money. They believe that money should be spent on more important things such as helping the poor and needy. They also believe that time should be spent on more important things such as praying and studying the Quran.

In conclusion, Wahhabis don’t celebrate Milad because they believe it is a form of shirk, bid’ah, and a waste of time and money. They believe that any practices not mentioned in the Quran or Sunnah should be avoided and that money and time should be spent on more important things.
